Our Background
Mercy Presbyterian Church is a new church, in the process of
being planted through Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg and the Blue
Ridge Presbytery. We are a
congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. From its beginning, Redeemer Presbyterian desired to be a
church that participated in starting new churches in the region, with the
conviction that Jesus intends the church be the strongest witness to the gospel
both in its proclamation of Scripture and through its people’s lives in their
communities.
Realizing that a good number of their congregation lived in Forest, Redeemer started planning a new church that would minister to
those members and the Forest area.
There was a lot of interest and a worship service soon began. The church began meeting at Thomas
Jefferson Elementary School in Sept 2008 as a second site of Redeemer Lynchburg. In late 2009, Rob Edwards was called to
pastor the new church and arrived in March 2010.
The name Mercy Presbyterian Church was chosen because it communicates
both what we have received from God and what we are to reflect to our
neighbors. We continue to
need God’s mercy and we desire that God’s mercy in Christ might be known through our
church.
