How Can I serve?

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)

Facilities Set-up/Tear Down
Contact: Ryan White (ryan.white@mercypres.org)

Set-up and tear-down is one of the most important ways you can serve the entire congregation. Each week we have a team of people who help set-up chairs, put up signs, get nursery and classrooms ready, etc. And at the end of the service, we have another team that participates with taking it all down again.

Music Team
Contact: Jeremiah Sheets (jeremiah.sheets@mercypres.org)

We have many volunteers who are involved with helping the greater Mercy congregation worship through song on Sunday morning. There are volunteer opportunities to participate on the music team through voice or instrument (which includes a once-a-week evening practice) or as a sound technician.

Nursery
Contact: Tony Myers (tony.myers@mercypres.org)

We desire to offer childcare for ages 0-3 so that parents can spend time in worship. Our volunteers use this time to pray for the children and engage them on basic gospel truths.

Mercy Ministries
Contact: Tony Pearson (tony.pearson@mercypres.org)

Mercy Presbyterian Church seeks to be a transforming community, a helping neighbor, and a loving witness. Mercy is the expression of compassion and care for those with physical, emotional, or spiritual needs. If you are interested in serving our congregation and the greater Forest and Lynchburg community in this way, we invite you to be a part of our Mercy ministry.

Youth Group
Contact: Jeremiah Sheets (jeremiah.sheets@mercypres.org)

Our student ministry exists to gather young people and disciple them to bear the image of Christ. Our youth group meets weekly for fun activities, Bible discussion, prayer, and a time for snacks and community.

Hospitality (Coffee & Community and Events)
Contact: Laura Miner (hospitality@mercypres.org)

Like the early church, we hope to demonstrate biblical hospitality because we have a God who has been hospitable to us. To that end, we use food and gatherings on Sunday mornings and special events to bless and fellowship with one another.

Special Needs Ministry
Contact: Susan Deneen (click to view in directory)

Our Special Needs ministry acknowledges that barriers to the gospel often exist within the church for individuals and families touched by disability, and we desire to remove those barriers, while gathering and equipping those with disabilities as servants of Christ.

Equip for Worship
Contact: Tony Myers (tony.myers@mercypres.org)

Equip for Worship is designed to equip 4- and 5-year-old children to participate in the church’s worship. These children attend the first portion of the service with their families and are then excused prior to the sermon to attend Equip for Worship. This teaching lasts approximately 30 minutes and involves an activity, a lesson from the Jesus Storybook Bible, a song and/or craft, and prayer.
